Technical basics of timpani playing - Part 1: Tone production and sound quality
Approx. 90-minute lecture on the following topics, (among others):
- Basic movement sequences,
- weight and timing,
- "active seating" or posture?,
- mallet guidance and dealing with the rebound,
- rubbers, palate and Laogong-points.
Up to 10 participants are possible. The lecture can be given in German and English.
Requirements:
- 1 timpani,
- 1 timpani stool (adjustable in height),
- projector for PowerPoint presentation.
Technical basics of timpani playing - Part 2: Rhythmic accuracy
Approx. 90-minute workshop
Participants will work on practice pads to learn how to achieve rhythmic precision through flowing movement sequences. Additionally we will discover technical options which are at our disposal in order to enable diverse articulations.
- What we can learn from grandfather's clock, from hikers and from horses,
- why rhythmic precision feels good,
- feeling instead of thinking: pleasurable coordination.
Up to 10 participants are possible. The lecture can be given in German and English.
